How accurate are SERP ranking tool's for Google?

I have used several different keyword ranking tools showing how my websites rank in Google for specific keyword phrases. For instance for keywords: "florida bass fishing" my site www.floridabassfishing.us shows up at position #56 on two different tools. This is great as this site is only a little over one week old. It went from 700 to this I think by using SEO and getting links.

The problem I have is when I go to verify it on the Google search engine, I can't find it within the 1st 100 results. I heard there are different datacenters that can give different results. Is this the cause?

How are the datacenters distributed? How do they work?

My other site is 3 weeks old and ranking well (#3) for florida bass lakes for www.floridabasslakes.com and doing fair for florida bass fishing. I added the other site since an Overture tool showed much more traffic for florida bass fishing.

Any comments on the difference from tool results and my own search results is greatly appreciated.

You should try searching with a browser that doesn't have your google info on it, no past search results. That way you don't get personalized search

Just any browser with none of your info in it. You could even clear your cookies and cache in IE, that should do it

Just PM'd you but I'll repeat here:

I downloaded Firefox and cleared everything and I can't find the my website in the query. Would you check keywords "florida bass fishing tips" into Google and see what you get. My tools says position 23, but I can't even find www.floridabassfishing.us in the top 100. I would greatly appreciate it!

If anyone else would do this that would be great as well!

Google returns different results, depending on the location of your pc. So if you would do a search in the US, and you do the exact same search in Australia (both on google.com), the results are different. Even without using google preferences and without using personal settings. The test i performed was : loading google-serp from my local machine in Asia and loading google serp from a server in the US. Same search, and i see one url appearing in a different position. Another search told me that two following urls just switched from position.

    Why ?
Google uses different datacenters, so it would be logic that google returns results from the closest (in terms of location) datacenter. Assuming not one datacenter contains the same index as the other datacenter, you would see different results. The reason why those datacenters might have a different index is the question....

I see differences in the SERP only for url's that have a visible (recent) date displayed just in front of the 'cached'-href. So we can assume that the url's that cause differences are new indexed pages, but not yet updated in the other datacenters.

    Regards,

    Kris

The Google SERP checker tool only gives you around rankings and ideas how world wide popular your websites . SERP tool check different countries google for different SERPs search results

It is because every one's default google homepage settings will be various
    by different locations or languages.
Google results different outside of your country.

Google gives preference to location in a search so your search for a keyword would result in a different website rank if you are in different country.
