How accurate are Adsense page view stats?

I'm just getting used to working with Adsense and I have a question about the stats.

When logged into my Adsense account, I see that one particular site of mine is reportedly getting 30 page views per day. And I have Adsense ads displayed on all pages of the site. However, that does not match up with my other reporting tools. For instance, I use Webalizer to monitor my site traffic stats and activity. In Webalizer, it shows that I get an average of 150 unique visitors a day and around 600 page views a day.

600 page views a day? Seems a far cry from the 30 page views that Adsense reports.

    What am I missing here?

Not missing anything. It's just not accurate. Just forget about it and let Adsense do it's own thing in regards to this.

Hmm. OK, thanks. I guess I'm trying to figure out which stats to use in my calculations. So I guess I ignore the Adsense stats and rely on my Webalizer stats? Because the 2 sets of stats (obviously) give me 2 totally different CTRs, and I'm trying to figure out if it is worth setting up an Adwords campaign to drive more traffic to the site, and "actual" page views is a critical component in that calculation.

If you can get hold of a login for google analytics then that could be a good step forwards as you can track your keywords etc... It's quite good!

The problem with webalizer is that it can over count which causes a problem the other way. I believe the reason for this is that if the webalizer config doesnt know that google have added a new server for spidering your site then it would count that spider as a visitor when it isnt. So the key here is to keep the list of robots updated in the config. I havent worked with webalizer before but the same happens in the log file analyzers. Webalizer probably have an updated list that you can upload weekly or when ever a new bot is added to the net.

Thanks Matthew. Someone mentioned Google Analytics to me earlier today. I will take a look at it.

I understand your point about bots. But I use Webalizer as it is offered server wide, not site specific so I am unable to go into config to make any changes.

Hopefully I will figure out an accurate way to determine actual site traffic. Otherwise, it will be difficult to make a "proper" decision on an Adwords campaign for the site.
