For a while now, my girlfriend has wanted her own website all about Christmas. So, I set her up with a domain name and hosting, installed Wordpress on it, installed a Christmas theme, modified things a little, and then let her go wild. The result, so far, is The Wonder of Christmas. Any comments would be greatfully received.
Nice layout, and great colors to match the theme. Just needs more content. There needs to be more jokes, etc... Overall, pretty neat.
Nice header. Good colors. I don't like the way the home page tells what is going to eventually be on the site. I'd rather see the posts begin so the reader can dive right into it. That is your "welcome" page, as well. Leave it under the "welcome" tab but don't keep it on the home page. Dive right in. I'd make more of a big deal out of the countdown to Christmas. It's nearly hidden. Clicked to look at the Christmas party hats post, but there were no images. Really would add a lot to the site to have images. How in the world does your girlfriend intend to make money from this site? Seems like a shame to spend so much time to create a site and then not benefit from it. Where is the Adsense? Where are the affiliate links to craft stores to buy supplies to make the crafts she talks about? Where are the affiliate links to other Christmas products and services? Where are the affiliate links to ebooks about getting ready for Christmas?
Hi guys, Thanks for looking at the site and for your comments. She will be adding lots more content as the days go on (she's pretty hyped about the subject matter). The site has only been up 3 days (I think). Yeah, I guess that we could add some social bookmarking icons quite easily using a Wordpress plugin. We will be changing how the home page works, with a different intro, and changing the "Welcome", page, etc. She doesn't want the site to look too "bloggy", but we might have the latest "article" (i.e., post) on the front page, and then encourage further browsing via the categories. We will hype up the countdown to Christmas! She also wants it to be more prominent. There are AdSense ads on there at the moment, just not on all of the pages. We're using a plugin to do this, and we're not happy with it yet, so I'm going to hack it about a bit anyway to better utilise the ads. We have an affiliate account with Amazon, and she'll be adding links to them in future articles. We might add more affiliate stuff later too. Thanks again for your comments and useful advice!
