Something that would pop up an alert whenever we get a new private message. And may be which will let us reply to that PM instantly via that pop up box.

Whats say guys ? I think that could be done with php curl or something?

Uhm. I think AJAX could do that job but I haven't seen any complaints about the current system.

Anyway, this should be in the Suggestions and Feedback Forum. =)

The pop up is there and it leads you straight to the PM so you can just reply via that PM.

I don't see any problem with the current Personal Message system as a Pop Up appears and takes you to the Inbox/PM directly. So I guess we should stick with what we have currently???

Guys, i am talking about a standalone application which could do this.

I know we get an alert box, but it appears only when we open or refresh any page on DP. I was talking about a popup message that would come instantly as soon as we have a new message in our inbox. Like when we get a new mail in yahoo inbox, an alert pops up from the yahoo messenger.

Ah, I see. But it works identically if you set your profile to receive email notifications about PMs.

Then you can use the email notifier application to see the mail that you received the private message.

    It works the same. ;)

Samantha, I think it matters sometime as when we are reading some long posts or when we are waiting for someone's PM. we need to refresh the page frequently.

This thing can be done via Ajax.
I have done this before for one of my client's online course learning site where student will get instant notification when they got any message from Tutors.

and these kinds of the threads are the reason people had to take the time to come up with the term "sh1t starter"

Won't happen because of the database increasing 1GB a day due to posts and pms.

Will cost too much in resources.

Seconds matter in Buy, Sell or Trade forums.

And i am not talking about adding this feature in DP itself, i suggested it for a standalone application.

The current system looks perfectly fine. Just having a DP ''messenger'' for the purpose of saving a few seconds doesn't really make too much sense

I do understand what are you suggesting and some times it does matter. But rather then suggesting why not work on that yourself and come up with a Digital Point messenger (if you are not a programmer you could take help from any of your friends)?? That would be a nice tool and will come in handy
