Although I just started my website a mere 6 months ago..I have a pretty good following..I am also happy where it ranks for some of the keywords I am targeting. One of those keywords although not high on my list because it is not a high traffic keyword but it is within my websites name and title. So of course I would love to be first for it even though the return will not be extraordinarily great. That keyword is niche website and I am on the second page of Google for it. Now looking at the results in Google I have been bouncing around on the 2nd page of Google for that search term the last few months. I accept this and I know I need to build more site authority. But what I don't understand is how does another website specifically feed2.me that has nothing to to with a niche website, rank higher than me? That website has neither the keyword in its title, meta data ,description and or within its pages or tags. It is simply a landing for some program someone is soon to be launching? Am I jealous or mad at them? Certainly not! I am simply wondering what exactly they are doing that I need to do as well. So any questions and comments are very much welcome. Thanks. ~Scot Manaher
I was struggling with the same problem. Until one day that my page Rank for that page moved up, and so did my keyword. Now I rank in the first page second position. I am so happy. Find a way to get a higher page rank for that page and your keywords will move up.
The google bot is most likely tricked into thinking thats what the person is doing. maybe you should try similar keywords and try to rank with them maybe even you can trick a robot lol
Often when a page ranks for a term not even in its title, Google is just placing it there because of relevancy from its backlinks or site authority. Not exactly sure on this, but it means you can easily overtake that page in the rankings with some link building and title tag optimization.
Thanks for the great replies. The only problem I am having with link building is really finding credible websites that are not spam sites. I think that is one of the reasons it is holding me back. But I did mimic what that website did and created exactly they same links they have so hope that helps with my link building.
You should be to page one soon, but you should really let us know when it does. There have been a lot of ranking changes lately (with all of Googles changes) and it would be interesting to find out how long it takes a rather new site to rank well. Ranking for the keyword in your URL is just a matter of time!
Sounds good Brad will do. My page rank within only a few months was at 3 although I know listing position always is not determined by page rank but it will be interesting to find out if I move up when I hit pr 4 and that should be very soon now. I am hoping within the next few months.
