How do you all feel about promoting products that have email opt-in`s or hover adds on the main page, i mean, do you feel comfortable sending a visitor to a site knowing they have the option to give their details to the CB vendor who may then sell to them at a later date and not pass on the commision. Does this happen? Just updated some of my blogs, clicked on the hops to make sure everything is working and 5 sites now have opt-ins, they did`nt when i started to market them. Love to hear any opinions...
In general, having a vendor that is opting people in and following up is good for you as an affiliate because they will push their products so you're more likely to make a commission. Of course, you need to check they're not overwriting your cookies, so sign up for the list yourself and have a look at all the links. Note: don't forget that you may inadvertently clear your own cookies at some point, so don't be too surprised if you see affiliate=none. Use www.web-sniffer.com on the links you get in the emails to make sure your cookie is not being intentionally overwritten.
Most people (on here?) don't like them and will tell you to avoid vendors who do this... this is a lot of vendors - and simply because it works to increase conversions: by following a lead up in an autoresponder you have a MUCH greater chance of converting them. People on here don't really like it as it is reported from time to time that vendors overwrite the cookies basically. If this is the case then this is obviously very bad for you - however there are MANY solid, honest vendors who don't overwrite cookies though their newsletter, and in these instances I believe an opt-in to be a a good thing for you - if it increases sales for the vendor it increases sales for you - it also gives you the advantage of being able to do very soft sells, and to offer free gifts to get your visitors to click (i.e. tell them about the free gifts the vendor gives through their newsletter) - this way you get people interested, gte a higher click through and the vendor does the real selling for you. In the end though you need to check each individual vendor to see if they are honest - just as you would test conversions and drop those that don't work. If you get an honest vendor who knows what theyre doing then an opt-in can be great. I have an opt-in, I don't steal from my affiliates, and I don't have any plans to offer our site to affiliates without this opt-in, simply because a massive amount of my sales come via the autoresponder and if I was to remove it then it wouldn't actually convert nearly as well for affiliates... catch 22..
You should make sure that the vendors who use optins are honest and send their subscribers to the clickbank sales page...if they send them to another page where visitors can pay through ejunkie or paydotcom or another system you wouldnt get your comission...
