Hi there, I recently received a harassing email from an individual who I'd never even met before (but who knew some things about me, somehow). Having never so much as spoken to her on the phone before, I reported the email to Microsoft and her ISP (after looking at the host headers) as a form of harassment. 24 hours later, MS emailed me back indicating that the account had been closed permanently. For one email, I thought that was a little bit harsh, so I'm wondering...does MS close Hotmail accounts at the first sign of something potentially troublesome, or do they go back and see if the user has been reported before?
No idea, but if you sent them a copy of the email with the headers and they were able to see that it was harrassing (and therefore in violation of their TOS). they wouldn't need more than the one piece of evidence. I've had that sort of response from HotMail in the past in response to spam complaints.
