hotmail accounts

hmm this would be for any hotmail.com users.

I signed up an account in 2000, used it for many yrs, till around last year. I changed the pass and had always used the "save pass" so I never needed to enter in the password.. bad mistake.

Anyways my PC had to be reformatted and I could never sign in the account. I had to learn the hard way, so now I always use my pass.

So, that account has been not logged in for atleast 1-2 years now. It makes me wonder, do account ever expire some day? In that case I could aquire and register it again? The name is not very comman at all and know one would want the account.

I'm just wondering, because I lost many contacts and emails as a result of this issue.

why didnt you request the passward to the email address which you used to create that hotmail account? and even if you lost the passward you could easily log in using your secret question!
now that its around 1-2 years you can still get your email account back. just give your email account and try requesting the passward. or use secret question to log in if you still remember the answer. your email address will be deactivated but you can activate it anytime unless someone else has it taken. but unfortunately you can never get your emails or contacts back...

Exactly what I would have done. I lost my account password a few times. Usually, after submitting lost password, they just ask for more account details.

Well #1 the email that it would send the email to is the same email.. haha, so that's useless.

#2 i tried my secret question and it just doesn't work.. I emailed support and they said they can't help me.

So I'm curious as to them deleting the account ever? so that I could re-register it?

Account do expire but im not sure what time frame. I though it was 6 months.
I would just ring them and make a fuss and they might help you.

    I have this trouble before.
Now I remember to add one backup email from yahoo or gmail.
It is used to recover the lost password.

hmm well what if you get spam email? then it will never delete?

I thought hotmail's policy was after 180 days of not logging in that they terminate the account? I tried to re-register, but it's still register after 1-2 yrs...

    I have to disagree :D

I had not signed in to one of my accounts for a good 11-13 months and the only thing that was "deleted" was the mail box.

Account once created are not deleted till the user chooses to close his account.
But this doesn't mean that all the mails are saved ,once in 180 days of inactivity , accounts are deactivated and all mails are lost ...the user can re-activate his account any time BUT he must know his username and PASSWORD!
    /* feels sorry for you Cal813 */ :(

Big mistake for that needed account. I use save password for just for fun account.

Anyway... you should try lost password tool. And if you have already tried so many things and has lost the account then you should forget the loss and continue with other account.

Not sure of time frame for expiring the username, but I am sure the data is lost after few months if no activity.

yeah I learned my lesson and the accounts probably lost for good... I talked to a MS rep and they said they can't give it to me. They have some privacy policy, so they can't even call you to verify the account..

    oh well...
