Does anyone know how I can tell if my proxy is being hotlinked? I'm using insane bandwidth and its a relatively new site. Im using phproxy the latest version.
Well the simple fact you're using insane amount of bandwidth should tell you. Or you can just test it yourself. Use your proxy put an image in and get the proxy url. Then from there give it to a friend and if they see the image you've got a problem.
To make sure i got that right. Lets say I have an image folder are you saying give the url www.domain.com/imagefolder/picture to a friend of mine and if he can access it that'll tell me?
Alternatively, you could just forget about checking to see if people are hotlinking, and install this mod. It's not my site, but the mod works great!
I installed the mod where you said and now have seen about a 200% increase in traffic 8 hrs into the day already. Have also seen about a 150% increase in ad income over the same period. Just weird. Thought traffic wouldve slowed down in stead of spike more. Also, does anyone know what images.firemobi.com Im getting linked from there alot, went to the site and can't figure out why.
Regarding images.firemobi.com, people may have hotlinked an image(s) through your proxy prior to you installing the mod, after installing the mod all hotlinks point to whatever URL you want it to, by default it is your index page, i.e. yourproxy.com. So I would guess, all of those once hotlinked images are now pointing straight to your proxy's main page, i.e. yourproxy.com. And that is the main reason why your traffic has increased. I have the mod on all of my proxies, it is a must.
Hotlinking is one of the biggest drains on a proxy server. You should definitely install the anti hotlinking mods on all your proxies in the future.
Add the mod as above and add this to you htaccess (I found that the mod wasn't helping me) RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(.+\.)?domain\.com/ [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$ RewriteRule .*.(jpe?g|gif|bmp|png|avi|mpeg|mp3)$ /images/stop.jpg [L] Code (markup):
