Hi, I'd like to have hotlink protection from websites that abuse the privilege by pretty much hotlinking half my website images. Instead of allowing particular websites, I'd like to DISALLOW particular websites. How is this done? Thanks ahead!
Well, why do you want to disallow certain websites from hotlinking and would like to allow others? A much better practice is to disallow everyone from hotlinking to your images. Use the following code:
I know how to do that... I actually don't mind a smattering of hotlinking from low-traffic websites that use a few images, but some websites are displaying 50 images, which is (1) very much into the realm of copyright infringement and (2) they're burning up my bandwidth.
I've been trying to figure this out too. The problem that I am having is with disabling images from feeds by changing my .htaccess file. I have 2 websites on shared Dreamhost, and I'm overloading their server. It's funny because I max out at 2k page views per day and am usually much lower (~700). Dreamhost is killing my user which is very annoying when I am logged in. I'm trying to lower server load.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only for which this would be useful. Web pages about hotlinking abound, but they are all concerned with blocking as much as possible.
Here's a tool that I used, it will allow you to configure your .htaccess file. You then upload this file into your "uploads" folder if you're using Wordress: http://www.htmlbasix.com/disablehotlinking.shtml
Thanks - but that's also the opposite of what I want to do, which is to allow hotlinking, except for a few bad apples.
