    Hello,

Here we are 5 to 6 years after local business listing and maps showed up in the local search results.

I thought it might be interesting to note that a claimed listing can indeed can be hijacked!

The recent situation of data feeds through syndication affecting hotel local business listings on Google+ certainly raises a question why Google allows for outside sources to affect claimed business listings.

You can read more on the details at Search Engine Land article on "Thousands Of Hotel Listings Were Hijacked In Google+ Local"

In 2011, Cooper Tires had their listings hijacked as well from syndicated data feeds:

I do fault Google for allowing claimed verified local business listings to be affected or hijacked through outside sources, including Google's own Google Map Maker.

This has been a problem for years! What in the world is Google doing allowing for claimed listings to be affected either by outsides sources, citations or syndicated data feeds?

A very frustrating situation for businesses....and Google is wondering why more businesses don't claim their listings or manage them? Why bother, doesn't seem to make a difference if they are claimed or not.

Has anyone else noticed their claimed local business listing(s) affected by syndicated data feeds or citations?

Not being snarky here it just seems to me more people should be reading the front page. They have been aggregating some really cool stuff for while now.

Very thought provoking posts from this site... which I would never heard of otherwise for instance.

And, the Whiteboard Fridays totally rock!

To sorta answer your question, Google will flesh that stuff out post haste. I would not want to be roomstobook.info lol..

    but I digress,
