Please have a look at this new mod I've got going for phpLD. http://www.businessplexus.com/rating/ It allows you to have a rating system for your sites, and then people can go through and rate the sites. there is also a way to show rankings based on time periods: http://www.businessplexus.com/rating/top.php?period=day will only include votes from the last 24 hours. similarly, you can use: http://www.businessplexus.com/rating/top.php?period=week http://www.businessplexus.com/rating/top.php?period=month http://www.businessplexus.com/rating/top.php will give you an all time ranking. This mod will run as a "stand alone". It merely grabs the links from the links table (active only) and then adds ratings to a new table. With a little more smarty coding, you could do things like: 1) Sort Links by Rating 2) Get others to rate your sites to help maintain quality or find dead links 3) Give a new reason for people to keep coming back to your site 4) Help improve traffic to sites that are listed in your directory as a result of people rating sites. What do you think? Any ideas how I can make it better?
We were just yesterday talking about the same thing on another forum. Several of the issues we identified... What's to keep folks from over-ranking themselves or their friends? What's to keep folks from torpedoing a competitor's site? Unfortunately, our only solution to those two appeared to be moderation of the ratings. How are you handling it?
Oh, definitely. We can use the same functions we have now for limiting multiple votes for the same site by ip address. In addition, as the mod is devised right now, there is no way to choose which sites you want to vote on. It is random, so in some ways this is a non-issue as the mod stands right now. I'm more asking if you would use it if developed even more.
These things really get abused. Check out: http://www.isedb.com/html/Web_Directories/General_Directories/ Alive Directory - rated 5.33 out of 10 Aviva Directory - rated 2.25 out of 10 Sevenseek - rated 1 out of 10
It's pretty well ready as a standalone package now, but it needs a little tweaking. If there is someone that would want to help give it a few final tweaks let me know. I will try to get it released this week.
i don't like the whole frames look but that is because I try to be obsessed with XHTML strict What I would like is a preview is shown, and then you vote from the within the directory... say the "read more" page
i wouldnt use it i dont like star rating systems or anything similar they are usually abused and provide little to the listings IMO always good to see new mods come out though
