Hi. I use some webservices on sites and thus hotlink images. for SEO would it be better if I were to cache images rather than hot link? IE is hotlinking of images thought / known to be detrimental to SERPs?
Just host the images yourself. It could bring you traffic from google images and sites usually don't like being hotlinked to. If someone hotlinks to an image on my site I just replace the file with a message saying that the image is being hotlinked from my url.
I wouldn't mind being hotlinked if photos had a watermark or my website address on it, or even if the other website gave my site a small "shout out"... Otherwise, I would rather they just download the pic and serve it from there own host. Bandwidth issue.... As far as hotlinked webmasters replacing images... I've seen the imagination go wild with this idea. Another reason not to do it...
thats what people do with the image hosting companies. they generate an image code and use the code which is actually hot linking to other image site. nothing wrong if you do that. i i would not host link to any individual sites that i don;t have any connection with. id the rename or remove the image, yuor site will look like crap with dead images
Hotlinking images from other sites are sometimes not good in terms that other site or the owner of the image is very strict and they forbid to hotlink it...Instead, I just download it and upload it...
Hi Image host is fine with me hotlinking - I was just wondering if google et al see hotlinking of images as being a mark against the site in terms of search engine ranking
