Nice of you to alert us in advance. Hope we don't have to face the dark side of the story.

    Nice story, samilakosala.

I also heard that just recently hostwinds lost all their shared server data. They won't even compensate or refund those who lost all their site data.

Atleast more people learned how awful their service is, and are leaving their hosting for another.

I believe around the 10th of this month people started saying they got their sites wiped out. Hostwinds blamed it on "short DDOS"

I do not know where you are hearing all of this information, TrinityZey, but if what you hear is true then you have more information than I do! I work as the Senior Technician for Hostwinds, and though we did have some shared server issues at the beginning of June due to an unpredictable hard drive failure (in which RAID was able to recover most of the data), we gave FULL refunds to anyone who asked as well as a YEAR of free hosting to those whose data was lost. If a client had paid for three months of hosting, we have them a three month refund. If they paid for six, well, we refunded all of those months. Losing data as a host is unacceptable, so we went out of our way to make sure every client was content. I oversaw our client interaction efforts during all of this and I can assure you we did absolutely everything in our power to make our customers happy again. It proves so, too, considering nearly 85% of those whom where affected by this still remain as customers of Hostwinds.

So please, quit gossiping about us without evidence or proof of anything. It does us no good, and I would personally ask that you get over what happened from almost a year ago. If there is anything I can do to help you with whatever hosting situation you have now; whether it be technical advice or physical labor, let me know. I'm extremely sorry you were unhappy with us (still are, it seems), and I ask that you find it within you to forgive us.

    Also, this never happened.

Dave, we'd appreciate it if you would not bring your bullshitting here.

People have been complaining for weeks now that their sites lost their data on your servers, got hacked, and constant down time all because of Hostwinds hosting.

The fact that you are even trying to suggest that people (who had their hosting for more than 30 days) have been getting refunds is ridiculous, as I know from first and second hand that this sort of thing didnt happen.

Maybe you should try working more on making sure your service is not beyond crappy, instead wasting your time spreading bulls&&& PR and threatening your users to delete their negative feedbacks.

Please publicly point out those who have 'constant down time'. I would be glad to find out why and solve the issue quickly and efficiently. As of now, all sites on our servers are running just fine.

Please publicly point out your first and second hand friends that did not get a refund, and I will personally attend to that.

Please publicly point out why our service is 'beyond crappy' (without slander, and with reputable evidence) and I will do my best to work with the Hostwinds team to improve upon those areas.

Thank you for your time, Tom. Please let me know via PM or Skype if there's anything else I can do for you.

We work on improving ourselves every hour of the week.

Op, thankyou so much for your warning. Im sure your helping alot of people with your advice.
Your situation sounds almost as bad as the time i joined future hosting. Never got a working server, and of course, they have a no refund policy. You would think they could have at least cancelled the cpanel license and refunded that to me, or at least refunded the fortune i paid in management fees for a server that never worked.

On a different note, any host though tries to pass on the costs of server management from hackers, or malicious users. Often unless its a fully managed system they only guarantee the hardware and any other issues are 'your fault' and even with fully managed systems, hacks and ddos mitigation, and all that usually cost extras.

$100 for an OS reload, is actually comparable to other hosts, this is why last time i needed a non-cpanel vps (and a non-managed solution) i chose sshvm.com as i can easily reload the OS myself through the control panel. 1 click to install centos, or ubuntu or cpanel or kloxo.

Op i do hope that you got any unused money back, but here is the lessons i have learnt when choosing a new host for shared / vps
    1. take their smallest package they have that is usable to you. Dont pay for addons or anything until you trust them, otherwise this is more money that your risking if the service is s***
    2. try them for 1 month before upgrading or taking addons, and i would even suggest running sites in parallel from your old host to your new, so that if it sucks you can switch back and try someone else.
    3. only ever pay monthly. This way when they F*** up, (and they all do at some stage) you can easily move on, and at most you only lose a few weeks of service, whereas if you pay yearly, you risk losing up to 12months of paid service.
