so after narrowing my hosting decision for my ecommerce site - to HostGator.com and HostMonster.com I can't decide. I ppl talk great things about HostGator... what do you think about HostMonster? experieces, advice, reviews? thanks
HostMonster doesnt actually have a monster for its logo/mascot. Due to this I would have to pick HostGator.
I use HostMonster and I haven't had any problems. Their support is definitely outsourced and they have them use American names (like there was a Turkish guy I spoke to named Jeff). But there support is definitely educated and they answered every single question I've asked. Hostmonster is 7.95/month for unlimited* bandwidth and unlimited* disk space, while you'd have to pay nearly double to get that from HostGator. I signed-up with HM when they did 300GB/3000GB (diskspace/bandwidth) and they won't upgrade you unless you hit like 1000GB of bandwidth at anytime during your monthly package date. So, I would definitely recommmend HostMonster from Experience.
I've been using HM for a year now. I'm generally happy with everything, but because I have quite a large number of sites, the CPU isn't enough for my sites and I get some downtimes.
I am using hostGator for my forum. So far its been working great. There been few performance issues at the beginning; now that have fixed them and everything working great.
When Your Site Will Get Huge Traffic , Specialy In Forum You Will Have Problems In Hostgator Thats What I Heard
Go with HostMonster if your still having second thoughts..I've used it for nearly a year and I've had no problems whatsoever. Simple and easy to use and it's pretty cheap for unlimited everything.
Hostmonsters support is superb. For having simple websites with low traffic. The downsides: -limited to about 700 emails/hour with a php script -about 800 users online on a server friendly website and you will get "This Account Has Exceeded Its CPU Quota" and be unable to access the website for about 10 minutes -had some problems when downloading a 800mb backup file: downloading speed was up to max 80 kbps and got an error in the middle of dowloading - the account collapsed so I needed Hostmonster support. Every time when I tried to download the file. So I got myself a VPS.
Hostgator blows and I haven't had any experience with Hostmonster but i would say to stay away from Hostgator
HostGator stopped support for some PHP tracking scripts. They never said this and i lost close to $3k because of this. Now i have to change hosting company. They never even said sorry. (or they did? I'm not sure)
Interesting stuff, I think I am going to give Hostmonster a try... You basically get the same thing with both right? It sounds like Hostmonster has unlimited and is cheaper? I found a couple deals for Hostmonster, one is for a $50 rebate with a monthly price of $6.95 . The other is for a monthly price of $4.95 with no rebate. I think the $50 rebate is the better deal but I wonder if you get it right away and how reliable it is? Anyone care to advise???
