    Hello
I have failover hosting from hostingzoom.com . 12 hours ago i saw that all of my mysql databases disappeared. I talked with their technicans. They told me that they will fix this problem.
Now i again contacted with them 12 hours later.
    They told me
I had one forum website, 3 wordpress blogs in this hosting and i don't have database . My sites are always updated.
I advised hostingzoom to everyone . Until now i won't.
As you see your database's can disappear suddenly.
Now i don't know what to do .
I'm thinking to have lawsuit with them.
What do you advise me ?

Everywhere your database can dissapear ... well they gave you database from 2 days back ? What do you want more ? And they will refund you your monthly payment ... at least that was what they did for me when server brake down ..... and man 2 days is very very good for hosting company you know

Things break. That is why you should always have your own backup plan and your own backup and redundancy. Don't just rely on one host if things are that important to you.

I'm relying them because they are telling lie.
    Read this
    http://www.hostingzoom.com/web/technology.html
So my mysql's must be in other servers. All servers crashed ?

I've been a Web Host for 10 years now, for money. I did it for free back in 94-96. I've been doing it a LONG time..... Shit breaks.

You should ALWAYS have a back up of your own data, just in case. No one is perfect. Shit breaks. It happens. If your data is that important you should do the following:

Have your site mirrored at two different hosts for redundancy
    Have backups at both hosts
Backup your own data and keep it with you
Backup your own data and keep it OFF SITE

Doing anything else? I really do not see any valid reason to complain.

I am not defending your host. What I am telling you is that SHIT BREAKS... How important your data is to you should be defined not only by what your host/s does, but by what you do yourself.

They don't guarantee 100% uptime. If you want 100% uptime, you have to pay for it from a better company like RackSpace.

No one can guarantee 100% uptime. Even 5 "9s", the industry standard is nearly impossible to achieve.

You do the best you can. Shit breaks. Use a more than one redundant host. Going with a host that is redundant is not enough, no matter who they are. You should be redundant yourself.

I didn't tell you they give %100 uptime . But they say that database are mirrored across multiple servers.
So it means that they must have databases in other servers. So there are too many copies of databases
    Am i wrong ?

From an online chat today with RS.

    "Chat Information
Chat InformationWelcome to Rackspace. My name is Tito and I am a Live assistant. How may I help you today?
Tito: Welcome to Rackspace, how may I help you?
you: had a question about you uptime guarantee
    Tito: ok
you: What happens if there IS an outage?
Tito: we have 7 tier 1 providers in each data center
Tito: so it will not affect our customers
    you: I understand that.
you: but what if there is complete and total 100% outage
Tito: we havnt had a single second of downtime in over 5 years
Tito: we have DR plans in place
you: Ok, I understand that, but what happens if you do?
Tito: I dont know it has never happened "

Ok, that really told me a lot.

Anyway, Netcraft does list them as the "most reliable hosting company for September 2006". Not sure what matrix they are using to define reliablity, but it looks like they were just polling www.rackspaceDOTCOM, ie., their web server.

Do keep in mind that Network Uptime and "server uptime" or two totally different things. You could have a partial network outage, or say a partial server outage, but still have network connectivity, which could be defined as 100% network up time vs. total 100% network connectivity and uptime combined.

Either way, no one can guarantee 100% uptime. I think I made my point in the RackSpace chat. What happens if they do have an outage? I mean, and outage that affects me personally? What then, do they do for me? A guarantee is only as good as the compensation or satisfaction that goes along with it, if the guarantee is not met.

sunny : my experience with hostingzoom is very good. They had one day of downtime in 9 months and they refunded for the whole month. Databases were from 2 days back from the crash and they were very kind with support.....

Haha, bloody liars. They had a spell of downtime in July 2006 in an ENTIRE DATACENTER which lasted almost 5 hours and they were publicly humiliated on most hosting forums. Yet they continue to push their "zero downtime network" advertising:rolleyes:
