Gah - you recommend them? They're dreadful! :D

No Cpanel, no stats, no domain control and shaky service. I started out with them but happily no longer use'em.

They may be fine for free, cheap hobby site, but if you want to do anything serious, avoid IMO. :)

Yeah, I should have explained, I get loads of domains and leave them there for ages, use the email, free webspace, then transfer to somewhere worthwhile afterwards ;) so it is really good.. if you dont plan on doing anything with the sites.

The local SE's tend to place more importance on locally hosted sites...

Why don't you two paste your details in here so everyone can see? The great thing about forums is that people find the threads time and time again which is great advertising if you are describing your services.

I'll PM you both to see what you have to offer :)

lol there seems to be quite a few folks using asmallorange on DP. His prices are in dollars, does this mean the server is based in the US?

Yes, they are with The Planet which I believe puts them in Dallas

If you use a country .tld, it won't matter but you will find it a uphill battle to get a .com to rank in local search if your servers are in another country

The tld I'm trying to use is a .co.uk which is hosted currently on a UK server. Its a UK based company anyway

In your particular instance, I don't think server location would make any difference. There is a lot of theory on it though and people seem to come down on both sides.

I have seen proof that a .com hosted in the US has a really difficult time ranking in local search (despite having a lot of UK keywords) but never anything conclusive about a .co.uk having problems due to server location.
