Hey all, i dont want to turn this into a frenzy of spam, but im having real trouble finding a suitable host for a semi-busy-pretty busy vbulletin forum.

My current one acts like their able to deal with the traffic and memory but keep having down time, database errors, cgi errors etc.

Im in the UK if that helps, as cheap as possible as were skint.

    Cheers

Sounds like you're on a server that is oversold or has incompetant administration.
Just how busy is your forum, how many unique visitors a day, how many databases are you using?

You really might have to seek out a VPS depending on usage.

I think vbulletin only uses 1 database so just that one, only about a 100 users constanty, im not sure of unique but google ads says 16k.

    Cheers

You might need a cheap VPS.

There are unmanaged VPS plans starting at $15 and they go all the way up to $50. If you have 16k pageviews per day a cheap VPS should do it.

I'm new here and I don't know if I can post links to other boards, but I'd suggest you look for THE web hosting board, check the VPS offers forum and try with one of those.

Yeah, it is a very useful resource to benchmark web hosting. You can find really good offers every once in a while.

Yup, it seems like you could possibly be overloading that shared server, and are causing the problem yourself.

    RUN now!!

Just so you know, you would probabaly get the frenzy of spam in the Web Hosting board in the BST section.

A vps would seem like a good idea, or you can try exushost.com. We have just purchased a new dedicated server so have a new 500GB hardrive and low ammount of sites on this server. Exushost.com

Definitely go with Hostgator. I had my forum with them on a shared server for almost 6 months, usually about 100 concurrent users during the day and didn't have one single problem. You can get a plan for $9.99 pee month.

If you want to get a VPS, go to Futurehosting.biz, they are also excellent.

That's pretty good I didn't expect that much from a shared plan... I have a forum sitting around that I haven't been promoting on a Lunarpages shared plan. I wouldn't expect it to be able to handle 100 concurrent users with DB connections and all...
