Is there any cheap hosting beside dedicated or VPS server which support sending mass email via PHP list. as hostgator support only 500 emails sent per hour. Will you advice any other option beside phplist where i can use it for the distribution of my newsletter.
Umm not totally sure but u can try powweb u can contact them via live support using the link in my signature below. maybe they allow not lots of shared hosting will allow u to send that high amount of maiks though
Even if they throttle emails being sent to 500 per hour does that actually stop you sending 2000 emails to the email server at the same time? We throttle emails-per-hour on our email servers too, but it doesn't stop you sending all your emails to the email server in a single process. The email server then holds all the emails and delivers them at a rate of X per hour. So, if you sent 2000 emails to the email server, and the throttling rate was 500 per hour, it would take 4 hours for all your emails to be delivered in batches of 500 at a time. This is all controlled by the email server, so you don't need to do anything except send your emails and let the server do the rest. Not sure if Hostgator's email servers are the same (it depends on the email server software), but it might be worth clarifying this with them.
If i have more than 300,000 members then it will take 600 hours :O I call hostgator they said if you buy a vps server then there will be no limit. you can send many email you want but you can't put ads in your newsletter. And here am totally stuck. If i don't put ads i my email then how come i pay my expenses or cost? I think the hostgator stops email service and you get error after reaching to the limit of 500emails/hour
I believe you will need a sort of dedicated server for that. And be ready to discuss that with your prospective web hosting provider
And if you have 1,000,000 members it would take 2000 hours, but you asked about the ability to send emails to 2000 users. If you had 300,000 members, and wanted to email then all at once, you'd have more to worry about than that. You'd also need the infrastructure to be able to send that many emails and no shared host will give you it. If you buy the VPS then why not install your own email server on it - there are some that are free for single domains and/or reduced features? Then you don't need to worry about what restrictions the hosts place on the email servers that they manage because you're using your own.
