The change has to be at the DNS level. If your current provider handles DNS, it's easy.
buy your second hosting service and explain your configuration to them so they can set up their own DNS.
ask your current provider to change DNS to direct to those of the second provider.
In this case, I would recommend you stick to your providers' support instead of trying to do it solo if you are not experienced

Yes, the CNAME records will need to be changed at the host which handles the primary domain's dns :)

You can edit the CNAME records under "total dns control" at godaddy only if you are hosting the domain with godaddy as well. Otherwise it will need to be edited on your host's server, there's an easy way to do this via most control panels.

Okay, what is the OS & web server on HOST A. Which control panel is it running? Cpanel/WHM, Plesk or...?

You're going to need access to webhost manager (accessible at https://yourdomain.com:2087) to change cname records. It's not possible from within cpanel. You can ask your host to do this for you, to change the cname records for your subdomain to point it to the dreamhost IP.

I have paid hosting on netfirms and hostforweb and registered domain on nefirms. Netfirms allows to do this without any knowledge from me, just via control panel.
