Hosting Sitemap on a different domain

Can you have a Google sitemap for a website (www.domain1.com) be hosted on a separate domain (www.domain2.com/sitemap)?

I don't have FTP access for the site but I am trying to setup a sitemap for it.

The very definition of a sitemap indicates that it is on the same site... wouldn't you think? Otherwise, it would just be a link page.

Google won't accept a sitemap that is on a different server.

Yeah, after reading up on it, the Google Sitemap needs to be on the same site.

You could put a normal site map page up on the second domain, but it will only be seen as a page of links, and not give the full benefit that a true Google Sitemap xml feed would.

http://www.searchenginepromotionhelp.com/ has a good site map creator to make things easier...
