I was wondering, has anyone have a hosting company just disappear on them? I've had one hosting provider for my main company accounts for a couple of years now. All of sudden, none of my main accounts worked, and I fired off emails, since the hosting provider's main site is down, and nothing. I had to quickly move my main domains(the company sites and email) to another hosting provider asap. The phone # in the whois is disconnected. Anyone have this happen to them? later, tom
Thank you mdvaldosta. I keep my registrars and hosting providers separate. So, I was able to go to 1nd1.com, and change the name servers for the effected domains to the new hosting provider. Had I purchased my domains thought my hosting provider, I think in this case I would be hurting. later, tom
I had a simmilar problem as my hosting provider disappeared for 2-3 days and all my sites were down. Even if I bought web space at that moment I would have to wait for at least 48 hrs to up my site. CAn it be done faster than that or you keep a back up hosting provider ready. Also what if ur registrar disapp. Anand
I got cheap hosting off ebay a while back, that dissappeared in about a week... I wouldn't recomend ebay for hosting.
Which host was this if you dont mind me asking? I'd stay away from the smaller dodgy hosts.Im with a medium sized host at the moment with a good reputation. If you cant find one like that, maybe just go with the big boys for a while - godaddy etc.
I would like to say I'm going to re-frame from telling, but I'm only telling the truth, and if they have internal problems, it will help motivate them to fix'em. home-port (dot) com They were the first hosting company I used, and since then I've moved like 99% off to a way cheaper reseller account with another hosting provider. I maintained my companies main accounts, the ones that are important for each companies administration like emails, with home-port. I've received great customer support, but I'm currently irked that I never was notified about the outage. They were down for weeks, and just now the site is showing back up with some page errors. To prevent hosting account errors from getting proper tech support, of of my accounts emails is a yahoo account address, I still was able to receive notification, which seem never sent. Wow, seems like I'm venting, but I'm just trying to point out, in this situation I could have been 'warned' by the hosting provider, and they were very uncharacteristic and kept quiet. Well, this is fortunate timing, since my hosting account with them is coming due. Time to cut my losses. later, tom
You should've went with an established host. The site looks professional but they're using turnkey scripts to run the business, not that there isn't anything wrong with it, I tend to avoid those. You never know if you're being hosted by a kid and you've got your entire business in that kid's hands. Nowadays, DNS changes are almost instant, don't believe this 48 hours crap they keep telling you.
YES and there was nothing I could do because I got the hosting for free. They just sold themselves to someone else and they changed everything up.
Just a little follow-up: The hosting provider came back, and fired off an email explaining how they have returned and taking steps to prevent downtime in the future. I missed where they stated what exaclty happened, but I only briefly read it. I contacted them explaining how I had to immediatly move domains homes to a new hosting provider. I did this to prevent being 'renewed' in the future, but I recieved a letter today refunding all the money left in my accounts. The hosting provider has been in service for years, and it seems their business practices are pretty solid. Have to admit, it was a nice surprise to see a check I didn't expect. later, tom
Never had that problem but I'm very please with this hosting company: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com
