Thanks for taking a look... I am in search of recomendations for hosting options, I have 50+ domains and I dont want to pick a hosting company that offers unlimitted domains, but they only show as sub domains...I am looking to build out a blog network using wordpress and would appreciate anyones recomendations for this...also, I am bit technically challenged and have used godaddys one button wordpress install in the past, pretty simple but @ $4 per domain could get expensive...THANKS for the help with this..!
I would suggest for a cpanel /whm hosting where you can control each domain on its own, rather than some VPS panels which treats addon domains as subdomains. If you expect too much traffic then you can take up a dedicated box.
For any "blog network" that you are planning on selling links on it would be dumb not to go with seohosting.com (a hostgator company) If your not worried about selling links or linking them together than regular hostagor can do what you want.
Thanks, I have used hostgator before and was under the impression they are subdomains...I probably am not going to be selling links, but have not ruled this out...I assume this is based on the domains all having the same IP address?
Yes seohosting is expensive but you get different class C IP addresses, ideal for a blog network selling links. Hostgator you can get unlimited addon domains. So its not subdomains. Yes they will all have the same IP address also.
I would suggest VPS or Dedicated server in your case. The reason being their will be high CPU usage due to seo plugins. You'll soon receive warning from the host.
If you're looking for a VPS or similar i suggest you look at the amazon cloud. It's relatively new, very cheap and very powerful. http://aws.amazon.com/
Thanks, I will look into seo hosting, any guidance on domain to server ratio that is reasonable ...5 to 1, 10 to 1?
Dedicated server would be a good option for you, or else check some professional reseller hosting company. I would also recommend you to check webhostingtalk.com for reviews about different web hosting companies.
As Khansahib said a dedicated server would be the right direction. Since your not a technical person I would suggest going with a managed server. There are quite a few out there that have good services. I know from personal experience that Server Intellect has a manged servers and vps that come with the mail, stats and control panel already installed and dns ready to go that are supported quite well. I think from there you could do the 5 min setups as often as you wanted. You could even automate if you wanted to take a step further. No extra costs and would allow you to grow quite fast. Plus if one of your blogs or clients get the Digg effect your sites wouldn't go down like most shared host will.
I would highly suggest getting a VPS/Blade. Blog networks can become CPU/Memory intensive which can cause a host to suspend your site.
Hi, I don't think you should consider using a shared hosting account. Someone said "blade", which is not realistic at all as far as the blades cost 10 thousands of dollars in hardware only. However a decent low end VIrtual Private Server with up to 256 MB RAM, 10 - 20 GB disc space and up to 100 GB data transfer quota would work fine for you.
I raccomand you Dedicate Server from OVH or Kimsufi. If you can't buy (only europeean can buy it) I can buy for you and configure your system and optimize the server for high load.
I really recommend ServerPronto. I have two (just ordered my third) with them and have been using them since 2006. I really like them and have good success. Plus they are just $29.99 starting out for a dedicated server. Screw VPS. That is a joke. Some other joker can take your site down (or slow it down to a crawl). I have seen cost comparisons on Amazon Web Services that actually put them much more expensive than a regular dedicated server. I recommend you check out www.howtoforge.com. There are many how-to's on there that help you get a fully working server. Unless you want to pay the extra to get the control panel.
