Hi I've recently written a book and have built a site to promote it at Pergollen Books , and use E-Junkie to handle the paid downloads. I recently decided to also offer a couple of free ebooks. However, E-Junkie does'nt have the facilities to handle free downloads, and my site host doesn't enable me to do any coding because it is a quick sitebuild package, Moonfruit . So to test the concept, I got some free filespace at Yahoo Geocities to hold a couple of download pages and the ebook files. I'd just checked and tested them when Yahoo sent me a mail to say that they had closed my account because I'd breached their terms of service..., links, download pages. So I found another free host, Awardspace , and checked through their TOS, and quickly found that they also did not like download pages. I then checked through the TOS for their paid hosting package, but they were so long that I emailed their customer support and asked them. They replied that they didn't feel that they were well suited to being a download site. I don't know if perhaps they thought I'd be aiming for a few hundred thousand downloads a week or whatever...., or?. I'd appreciate any advice that anyone has to give. Also... if an ebook is say 3Mb filesize, does this mean that everytime someone does a download, that means that they have used up 3mb of my allotted bandwidth? Thanks Andrew
Yes thats exactly what it means. Your probably best to buy hosting from somewhere like www.dreamhost.com (I can give you a discount there if you use the promo code FREEDIVS) and making a download site like that.
You could also maybe try something like Megaupload or Box.net Another option might be just to email it to people. Then as a bonus you would have their email for future offers. Just don't spam them.
