Hosting music videos

I do not know much about this, therefore, please bear with me.

I am interested in hosting some music videos on a public website.

Is it legal to simply find and host music videos on my website? Or do I need a certain legal permit?

There will be a few adds on the website, if that matters at all.

    I hope someone can help

You can put online any content you created yourself.
If the content is not created by you, you need to ask the content creator to give you right to publish his content on your website.

You can use most YouTube videos, yes as they pay the fees and allow embedding. But be careful. I've just started a music lyrics website and due to all of the movie sites (my previous website was a movie site) shutting down I decided to get out of it. I now reference where I get my information from, but I display YouTube videos as my primary source as there's no need to reference due to their logo embedding.

Host videos on another host, dont host your site on US servers.

Of course there are certain exemptions like public domain - but you must figure that out on your own. In most cases, I would presume that you are using modern videos that have copyright interests attached. You would probably be legally liable for copyright infringement if you post videos on your site without the express authorization of the artists, unless the art itself is exempt.
