Have a client with lots of different country specific domains mysite.fr mysite.de etc but then has others that use a directory structure mysite.com/uk mysite.com/ie I am recommending that for ease of SEO/PPC they should standardise using country specific domains. In the absence of a CMS this does require the marketing staff in France, Germany etc to start managing their own content which providing resources are there is a good thing which could be encouraged using the right KPIs. However -the question is where is best to physically host all these domains. Is it really worth it hosting .fr in France, .de in Germany etc Can any one hosting company handle this?
It does seem to matter, in combination with your domain's extension. Technically all you need is IPs located in each country.... An IP address located in france, one in germany & so on.
When you say an IP address located in France hat means a server located in France right?Or can cmpanies like Rackspace buy IP addresses alocated to France but use it for a server in the UK. How dose it work?
Ideally the server ought to be located in France. It is however technically possible for a company like rackspace to acquire IPs in france. Each region has unique registries that allocate IP addresses, ARIN for north america, apnic for asia pacific...
Thanks again. I had a call from Google last week and now discussing SEO wit Jesus Christ. What ever next!
