It won't harm your results unless when you're changing the nameservers google crawls your site. You will bounce back though.

Yes - hosting location does affect your search results in different localities. So for example - a site hosted in the UK is more likely to rank in Google.co.uk, and a site hosted in Germany is more likely to rank in Google.de. I'd recommend hosting in the country where the vast majority of your target audience reside.

Having said that - it's only a small part of Google's localisation algorithm. More important are the site's TLD and links - for example you could host a .de site in Australia and as long as it ends with .de and has a whole load of links from German sites, it will still rank ok in Google.de. But you'll have to try slightly harder than if the the site was hosted in Germany too.

If you are staying within the same country and just want to move for example from hostgator to someone else because you found a cheaper plan or got your own server, don't worry about it. I just did it, no difference - and checked with many people beforehand

    Hi ,

just my 2 cents. I host a co.uk in Ireland and it doesnt feature in Irish Google results but features very well in Google.co.uk as I wanted.

But if you can at all - Its probably best to host in your target country - even for latency ( the closer you are to your visitors , the faster for them , the longer they will stay on site etc..)

    Cheers!

yes, the hosting location will affect the SERP, normally you will get better SERP on the local SERP with the local hosting

Hii Thanks for all of you :) For now, I think I will choose the 'safe' plan. I'll take my host to my target visitor's country..

Yes Hosting location will affect SERP. If you are going to promote website in USA and Hosting in other country than any website that is hosting in USA with same niche will rank higher as compared to Your website.

Yes server hosting location do effect your SERP.
Hosting location is one of the indicators that google considers while predicting if the website is a LOCAL website or NOT

Other factors do contribute on ranking like response time, server up-times etc..
