I was with hostgator for about 1 year but then I they started shutting down my sites that had RSS feeds saying they were using too much resources. I was paying 24.99 a month and they were charging me 2.00 extra for each dedicated ip (giving me as many as I wanted). Then I moved to site5 and things have been very smooth over there and the base package was a little bigger for 23.99 a month, dedicated ip's are only 1.00 a month. They gave me a hard time at first trying to get dedicated ones but then they gave me three and promised me 2 more. Now they are saying they can't do that and can only issue them for ssl cert. It seems they are leaving me the three I already have but won't give more. During my time with site5 I am also trying a smaller company budget hosting and the owner is very helpful and I have a small monthly package with them for 5.00 and I am hosting around 5 sites there and he gave me an extra shared ip to use, problem there has been my Wordpress blogs don't seem to operate on that host :-( ..... So now I have to figure out what to do. 1. Move everything to a big host that will allow me dedicated ip's. Find someone to share a dedicated server with (will I still be able to get as many ip's as I need)? 2. Find another small host and spread things around even more (good to avoid downtime but can really be a pain having so many accounts). 3 Find a couple of medium sized hosts and spread everything between two of them. 4. Any ideas any of you may have? thanks
Hi JG, Dedicated IP's are a dime a dozen. Your webhost might not FEEL like giving you more because when they run out they have to ask for more and document your justification, but there is no reason in the world why you should ever be squeezed when you have a legitimate need. Call around and pick a webhost who is willing to give you whatever number of dedicated IP's you need. If you get a VPS (virtual private server) you'll get more naturally, but you really just have to ask various webhosts if they'll cooperate with you before switching your account.
Change hosting company, hostgator, godaddy, a small orange, and 5-dots (or something like that) are listed among the worst, more expensive and limited hosting companies around.
I have heard a lot of good things about small orange but they are quite expensive. I have over 35 sites I manage at any given time so although cost is important it is not the deciding factor because I really need a host that does not overload their servers. Going for the cheapie hosts in general is a bad idea.
jg123, though I don't have personal experience with them, but you may want to check out ixwebhosting if no. of dedicated Ip's is an issue.
I can help you ... Let me know your requirement and I will work out something for you... I know the pain of finding a host that meet MOST of your requirement..it happen to me in the past before...
