Does anyone know anything about hosting in Ireland with the intention of ranking in the UK?

one of clients is considering a move to the new Amazon Cloud service from a UK host. is it considered the same or similar enough not to hit SERPs too hard?

    Hi,

I am based in Ireland and always use Irish hosting services - cheaper and easier to get your hands on if there is a problem.

Have never had any problems with PR or ranking in the UK.

Sadly, Irish sites/results can tend to get lumped in with UK results - we're a bit like the Canadians (U.S.) and New Zealanders (Australia) - when searching from Ireland unless you specifiy Ireland only. Bad news, dont tend to see many .ie in the returns for searches in the UK

I have use these two in the past with no problems www.hosting365.ie or www.irishdomains.ie

    Hope this helps:confused:

    Best of luck

    Cool thanks for that. :)

question really is, (and you answered) - your Irish hosted sites do OK in UK SERPs?

it's a well established .com anyway, just curious about the relationship between .ie and .co.uk SERPs

Unless your pages take ages to load, I don't think hosting in another country will affect your rankings very much. If you use geotargeting in webmaster tools you can easily get around that.

I have a few .co.uk sites hosted in Ireland that rank well in google.co.uk but obviously .ie does not. Is it a .com site you are moving from uk hosting?. I'd be wary about moving if so. I have 15 .co.uk sites not hosted in the uk and they all do fine.

Cant always rely on google to take up yer geographic targeting.

yes, it is a .com and this is what I've heard.

and no you can't always rely on the Geo in WMT at all. just flicked the switch on our own site today from Spain to UK just to watch the effects.

not only is it a .com, but its an already working, high earning .com and we cant afford a drop, even for a week or two.

we're going to be hosting one version in the US aimed there, and the other is proposed to go to Ireland.
