Hi guys, need some advice and assistance regarding a registrar/hosting issues.

We have recently changed registrar from UKhost4u to UKreg.

However, during the change, the name services have being changed for our domain, www.XYZ.co.uk
from our hosting partner to UKreg.com name servers.

However, even while i have change the name servers back to our hosting company, the website www.XYZ.co.uk are still down for the past 48 hours.

Because of this, we are unable to log remotely into our company network via mailgate.XYZ.co.uk but we have to use our company servers IP address. Is this normal?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated

If you can access your servers by IP address, then follow these steps to figure out where DNS is broken:

    1. launch nslookup

    2. Type

    set type=ns
    co.uk.

    3. You will get a list of DNS servers serving the co.uk domain. Pick any of them (e.g. 195.66.240.130) and type:

    server 195.66.240.130

Now you are using this DNS server instead of your own.

    4. Type:

    your-domain.co.uk.

You will get a list of DNS servers that is supposed to serve your domain name. Check if this list is what it should be (e.g. your hosting company, etc). If you get some server you don't expect, then contact your registrar - they didn't submit your new DNS info properly.

    5. Pick any of the servers and type:

    set type=a
    www.your-domain.co.uk.

You should get the IP address for this domain. If you don't, then the DNS server is misconfigured. In this case contact your hosting company.

    6. Finally, if you get the IP address, then the global DNS system is working properly and the problem is in your local DNS server. In this case, contact your IT folks.
