Hosting - does it matter?

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by pcpcpc, Jan 26, 2010.

For AdSense and Google ranking purposes, does it matter where you host your site? For example, is it better to have yoursite.wordpress.com (on wordpress servers) or www.yoursite.info (separate server with with wordpress installed)?

    Thanks!

it's better to have your own domain (.com/.net/.org)
also page loading speed seems to be the new factor in google rankings

I say no and yes. Your hosting is not going to matter regarding ranking purposes, how unfair is that? I think a real domain would do better than a sub-domain but it depends on how you promote it. Then again, if your host is bad and you time out or have other errors your going to lose traffic and maybe lose pages indexed in Google.

So the loading speed of your site actually affects your rankings? Wow.

Good point, thanks. I wouldn't find it fair either, I just wasn't sure if there was a striking difference strictly in terms of page page rank when comparing sub-domains vs. domains (say, these-are-my-keywords.wordpress.org and www.these-are-my-keywords.info).

Ultimately I'm wondering if the separate domain name registration and hosting fees are worth the time and money involved in setup. I mean this only in terms of how the search engine will analyze and rank it, now how easy it is for humans to remember/tell each other.

Hosting only matters to your adsense earnings if your server's uptime.

Will you earn if your site is always down? No.
Will you earn from people who can't access your site? No.

if you want to make money from this site,,then u need ur own domain,,wordpress will not work,,also they will delete ur blog if they found you using this blog for affiliate advertising ..
also .info's are bullshit,,there is no point in getting them,,they are spammers domains ..and u have to pay $10/yr ofter 1st yr..so stick to .com .net
also when you buy server do it from trusted hosting provider,,make sure you dont have spammers alongside the same shared server..and also the server is not overloaded

I think you can not use Adsense on yoursite.wordpress.com (on wordpress servers) but if you want to use Adsense then blog on separate server with wordpress installed is good.

Load speed is something new that Google added to their search rankings just a few months ago. It might not be in full swing yet but it is starting to play a factor.

If you use a wordpress site you already have wordpress to back you up which makes your blog a little more trust worthy in the eyes of Google compared to buying a brand new domain name and having to build it up. With that said your better off with a .com you rarely will ever see a .info or even a .net site ranked high in search results.

.com is the best option I agree
but .net and .org rank very well - there are many of these #1 for specific keywords
