I think to start it is better to get a reseller plan piad monthly, so if you dont get many customers you won't loose so much money.
try Hostgator.com reseller plan. it's great.

If you're that uncertain about what to do then you're probably not ready to run your own hosting company.

If you really want to go ahead though, you need to be able to answer the following questions first:

    1. Why am I doing this?
    2. Who will actually buy hosting from me (there's an awful lot of competition out there)?
    3. How will I provide support if things go wrong (and believe me they will, at least to clients anyway)?

I'd highly suggest working on 'speeling' before anything else ;)

One of the most important parts of a web hosting company is their support... Although it may not always be 24/7/365, you almost ALWAYS need to have people that speak English (or whichever language your customers speak) extremely well.

Also, I'd suggest working on a VPS (Virtual Private Server) at first, then moving to a dedicated if your company becomes big enough... :)

Don't mean break your optimisim, but the hosting market is super competitive ... you have lots of overhead, low margins, server headaches etc... If you got it in you to handle the time, money, infrastructure etc go for it !!!

But, why not sell information? Little to no overhead.. All you need is just some sweat equity. Why not write an ebook on how to find the best web host :)

This could be a headline for your ebook...

"Searching for the right Web Host? Avoid the 10 costly mistakes you can make if you don't choose the right host... Read more.."

Pain pleasure principle can really work :)

I would sell pencils on the street before I would try to start a Hosting company (I had one many years ago and although it started out fine, it became less and less profitable - because of the need for 24/7 support)

Another good reseller account is www.asmallorange.com if they are accepting new customers.

    But I would think twice.
