I'm in the process of transferring my site from Web Hosting Pad, one of the crappiest hosting companies on the web, to a dedicated server with a new host. The site has been moved over, but I need to point the domain to my new server. I emailed WHP yesterday at their DNS department and they claim they registered by name server. But when I do a check on dnscheckit.com, it shows that the site is STILL with Web Hosting Pad. I've emailed WHP and they are not answering, then when I chatted with them on live chat they claim that DNS is "not online right now," and "won't be online for three hours." This is a load of BS, because this company claims 24 hour support. Anyway, how to do I get this done WITHOUT relying on Web Hosting Pad? This is a piece of crap hosting company that advertises a 99.9% up time, but we've monitored them for months and its never been a 99.9%, the highest is 99.6%. This month we have failed to get emails through cpanel because of their server issues. I just need a way to take care of this DNS issue because I feel they are giving me a hard time.
If they can't look after the domain name registration to your satisfaction why not transfer it to say GoDaddy, takes a bit more effort to move than simply update the nameserver records etc but at least you don't then have to deal with a company you are not happy with. GoDaddy for example lets you add all the required entries yourself.
Your advice sounds excellent. Can you point out any sites that provide instructions on how to do this? This hosting company is giving me a hard time and I can tell they don't want to transfer the domain.
Choose your new registrar and they should have a transfer in option which takes you step by step through the process. Main thing is to make sure all your current details are correct before you start. If it's a .co.uk then you have have nominet move the domain to the new registrar for you.
They unlocked the domain, but now they still haven't disabled private registration, meaning when I start the transfer, the email goes to THEIR email address instead of mine. I emailed them to disable private registration but they are not responding. I contacted enom and they said they can't do anything.
just keep asking them, eventually they'll do it, if they won't change the privacy maybe they'll respond to the authorisation for you. Last time there was an issue with a .com it didn't have privacy on so the owner was able to talk direct with enom and get it moved to their control, guess the privacy is stopping them do that. Interesting thought that because of privacy your details are not on the domain so I guess you don't technically own the domain.
