There have been a substantial number of new hosting companies in the past few months advertising on digital point. I myself own one of them. Although when ordering hosting, how do you know your ordering from a decent company? Or a company that will suit your needs? The answer is you cant. This is not a guide nor do I want to write one but this next bit may sound like one. You dont know what your buying until you hand over your money. This is the way the whole concept of how small hosting companies work. There will be some dodgy sellers and there will be some reputable companies. Now to tell the difference, ask questions like: In my personal expeirence, I would always go with companies that own their own server/s and never with resellers. Because resellers have no control over the servers, meaning they make promises like 99.9% Uptime but in actual fact, they dont own the server and if the server suddenly goes down, they wouldnt know whats happening themselves. Another fact is the resellers main host actually have a server resource abuse policy, so if a clients site gets cut off for using too much CPU load for example, what can that reseller do? This is my view on hosting companies, and feel free to agree or disagree with me and add extra points I havent mentioned that relate to resellers. Kind Regards George
I agree with you to go with a company that has owned their own boxes for awhile. Rule of thumb: 2years If a small hosting business has expanded or paid their bills for two consecutive years, chances are they will not fold over night. Tha major issue plaguing the "client" is that everybody and their GRANDMOTHER is a webmaster/reseller. Simply do an IP lookup and see who the parent company is and buy through them. Find out which websites are on that IP block to figure out if they even have customers and a little investigation (the in-cognitive approach) should lead you to a conclusion. IE: Research how they obtained their webhosting resources ie: A vps(dont buy webhosting from these guys they are only the middle man) and ask them simply, do you own/pay for rack space or do you have a vpn? If they lie, they can't be trusted. /my 2 cents good luck on sorting through the garbo of webhosts
@zedge01 - I dont want all the customers. I am just meerly writing up a little piece of information that may come in useful.
