If this is NOT in the correct area, I apologize, but this seemed like the best place. If I am wrong, if admin would move and then LET ME KNOW WHERE, it'd be appreciated. Okee-dokee, then. Now, don't ask me how these people are finding me, but recently I've been writing content for, shall we say "adult" websites and those in the adult industry. I'm a hip granny, so I don't mind, but several of these people want me to redesign their sites (even though that's not my forte, and they understand that), market them and host them. Well, one of the women is a dominatrix (if that's the correct term these days) out in Nevada, I have several exotic dancers locally here in Florida, and even two escorts (they live in the states but travel to Canada and Europe to "work"). Now, here's my dilemma (and no, it's not moral; I used to work for an attorney, so you know I have no scruples! ): Each of these women (and in one case a man) has a site, but I know I cannot host on HostGator or GoDaddy, as they say it violates the TOS. Is there a webhost who specializes in adult industry? Does it have to be hosted OUTSIDE the U.S., or just the database? I found one company, but he will not give me reseller rights, and he is charging $50/month only up to a certain size, then it jumps to $150/month, which even given the industry, I think is ridiculous. ...and can the authorities give ME grief for hosting these sites? Can they force me to divulge personal information on these individuals? (as far as I know) They are not breaking the law, but you know how people like to give other people trouble, especially when it comes down to what two people do behind closed doors... I do not give a rat's backside what your feelings are about the whole "adult" industry. Please do not send me PMs telling me I'm going to hell for it; I'm going to hell for other reasons that I wish to keep to myself right now, thank you. I just want to know how/where I can host websites for clients. Clients, by the way, who even though are hurting as well because of the economy, manage to treat me with respect, do not haggle on price and actually pay on time, unlike some local clients with "regular" businesses... Okay, I'm off my soap box now. If anyone can help me out, please post or PM me. Have a humdinger of a weekend!
I think that Hostgator does allow adult content so long as it doesn't violate United States law. Lunarpages and HostICan do too. Best of luck Hip Granny
I bit the bullet and spoke to HostGator before posting the above thread. They told me in no uncertain terms that they would NOT host it. I even asked about a directory for escorts, and also one for gambling, and they also said "no". I will go to hostWW.net, though and see if they can help me. Thank you! PS: How many more posts before I become something more than a "grunt"? (or where on the forum do I find the info?)
Of course adult content is legal in the USA. You just need to find a host / datacenter that allows it. The only thing you will be hounded by the authorities for is child pornography which of course is illegal. The reason most hosts dont allow adult sites because they attract hack attempts and also DDoS attacks aswell. Also, I would join webhostingtalk.com, and search there for a host that supports adult sites. Make sure to research their reputation & previous client testimonials. I am saying this as there seems to be a lot of bias recommendations (hosting company owners recommending their own company, friend endorsing another friends hosting company etc) on this forum.
