In the browsers, my new website shows up as http://example.com/ . Is this something to do with add domain problem on to my existing hosting account?
I prefer to have full url as http://www.example.com/ ( I mean with the www) I do not know how the hosting company had done it.
    How can this be corrected?

You're right, is the wrong section.
Anyway, you have to contact your webhosting provider (i don't think cPanel has that option: you'll have to contact your hosting provider and they'll correct the domain aliases)

    It is something like

You can redirect the example.com to www.example.com by using .htaccess or redirect in cPanel.
