Well i feel like i had to post this somewhere. So you see, Hostican has this refferal program that gives you 90$ / refferal signup using your code, and to make story short, i have pursued my friends to signup using my code. Ok, he signed up, i got the comission added into my account, and now i am waiting for the payout day. So far so good right ? But to my surprise, at the payout day the refuse to pay me because they say this: Ok the funny thing is, they never mention anything about that on their FAQ page !!! Not even on their agreement page, so how should i know that coupon belongs to somebody else, since you CANT make your own coupons on the affiliate page ? I feel something is fishy so i wrote to them. Then they replied me with a link to their agreement page, and to my surpise, that coupon part suddenly appeared out of nowhere !! I swear i didnt see that before, and i feel like they just added that part after my complaints to them. So i used wayback machine to check it out. This is my discovery Wayback Machine : http://web.archive.org/web/20070710174856/http://www.hostican.com/company/affiliate-agreement.php Original Page http://www.hostican.com/company/affiliate-agreement.php Wayback Machine Archive The UPDATED agreement page I think by updating their own agreement page, they actually admitted that it was their fault for not being clear about the coupon part, thats why they decided to update the page. But to save their own faces, they still refuse to pay me out. Sigh. I dont think updating your own agreeement page like that is a correct thing to do, especially if you're doing that to defend yourself. But i hope now everybody knows about their cheap tricks and stay away from their affiliate program. Their webhosting service has nothing to do with this btw, i liked their service, its just that their affiliate pages that is screwed up.
Maybe it isn't nice what they did to you, but using someone else coupon is just acident waiting to happen. It's like going to McDonald with KFC coupon hoping that you will get discount. In this case I think that this disagreement is both fault.
yep most web hosts that offer coupons to their affiliates have the coupons tied to the affiliate accounts. This is really just poor due diligence on your part. Just because they didn't actually say it on their terms page doesn't mean anything. I got burned on a couple commissions with lunarpages because of this but i don't blame them for it, I should have inquired about it to make sure.
I been promoting hostican hosting for few months now. Initially i was confused with their coupon system. But the fact is that, their affiliate manager will assign you a dedicated coupon code. This code will bring sales to you. For me, i have my own $50 hostican coupon: BestHosting-12 Any sales generated by anyone.. will be route back to my account. Its a very nice feature to have. at the affiliate sign up page, they did mentioned: Meaning, there is custom hostican coupon out there.
