HostGator - Will I receive commision if buyer uses a coupon code

Hi everyone, I've got a friend who I've referred to sign up with Hostgator, as it really is a good host, and I happen to be an affiliate there. There are tons of these coupons for Hostgator around the internet, so I was thinking of giving him one in order to get him the best deal possible.

My one worry with this is: will I still get my affiliate commission if he uses the coupon, or are coupon codes hardcoded so they will pay the affiliate who has that coupon no matter what? Also, would this apply to all coupons or just some.

Thanks in advance for your help

I don't see why not. You made a referral to Hostgator.. but if the person who you are referring uses to $0.01 coupon, then you can expect no money.

I'm pretty sure you would get the comission. I had someone sign up under me using a $0.01 coupon, but they had to pay the renewal fee before I got my comission. Keep in mind that I did this from Hostgator Affiliates directly, rather than through CJ, although that shouldn't make a difference.

I think you still get the commission.

Yes, you will get commission. I just had someone purchase a Baby Croc 1 year subscription with a 20% coupon code and I got the commission.

Thanks, that happens to be exactly what I had my friend do, and so you having it work is quite reassuring.

I believe I have made quite a few $0.01 referrals this month - I have yet to see any results, hopefully if they renew I will start to see some cash :)

Yes you will receive full commission even if they use a discount code. Just remember that hostgator holds commissions for 60 days for fraud clearance. Also, the owner of hostgator is a member here so if you have any questions about your account I would encourage you to ask him. I am a hostgator affiliate and he has always been very approachable, professional and informative. Good Luck!

HostGator is cool... They pay good, incrementing commissions, and there's no setup charges... Converting HostGator isn't as tough, I believe... It could be a whole lot more easier if only they would warn and give their customers some time before deleting their accounts to "Bermuda Triangle"... :D

Would this mean that I will not see any commissions in my CJ accont until AFTER 2 months have gone passed?

I am not exactly sure how their CJ program works because I am with their in-house program because I tend to generate alot of hostgator referrals and the payout is tiered with $125 a sale for 21+ referrals a month. However, I do understand that the commission hold is the same. So for instance, your referrals for October are payed out in the second week of December and so forth.

Hey everyone. Just thought I'd let you know it did work. I gave my friend the 20% off coupon to use as well as my affiliate link to click and it got him the discount and my hostgator commission came through in full.

Glad to hear it - I guess I'll refer with coupons other than $0.01 cent hosting :/

I also made a $0.01 signup and happens to be my friend too. The stats shows $100 commission but I referred back to hostgator, they said after the 2nd month, they will pay because they need to see the genuinity of the sales.

Where did you read that offering incentives is not allowed? I read their TOS page but didn't find it anywhere. It may be that I missed out on reading it.

So, just to confirm, I open a live chat window with Chad Br. at their support department. Chad said that incentivising "can be" allowed.

    Any thoughts on this? :)
