I wanted to see if someone out there could shed some light on what happened today. I am not very technical when it comes to the hosting side of my blogs. I have a network of 12 auto blogs that I have hosted on shared HostGator plan. These blogs don't receive that much traffic per day maybe 10-20 visits per blog. This what Hostgator sent me today: I apologize, but I was forced to suspend the following scripts: /home/financez/public_html/3dzrr.com/index.php `/home/financez/public_html/ads/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/appzrr.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/buyhidbulbs.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/fanoodle.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/healthzrr.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/instantlocker.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/iphonezrr.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/loanzrr.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/mint/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/mobilezrr.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/photographyzrr.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/smartyinternet.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/sportszrr.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/techzrr.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/travelzrr.com/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/wp-admin/index.php' `/home/financez/public_html/wp-content/index.php' as they were causing a high load on the server, and due to the nature of the problem, I forced to take immediate action for the health of the server. Unfortunately I do not have any specific recommendations for this script, however, in general, adding some sort of caching mechanism, where the script does not need to generate a new page with every request, helps to lower the over load that a script will cause. Likely the original author or support group of the software that you are using will be able to help you to understand how to add something of this nature. If you reply back to this with your IP address (http://www.hostgator.com/ip.shtml) we will be more than happy to go ahead enable HTTP access for you, so that you can safely work on the script without it causing further issues. Please let us know how you would like to proceed. While we do limit each account to no more than 25% of a system's resources in our terms of service, we do not actively disable accounts until they greatly exceed that number, which is what happened in this case. It was necessary to disable your account to maintain a minimum level of proper service for everyone else. From this point, the following options are available: a) Block heavy users of your site, if any, that may be causing excessive load. b) Optimize scripts (php, etc) that may be consuming a large amount of cpu or RAM c) Upgrade to a dedicated server; your site may have outgrown a shared environment. Please let us know if you have a solution you feel would resolve this issue. Should a solution not be forthcoming, we are happy to assist you with an upgrade to dedicated services, where your site will have room to grow without affecting other customers. I appreciate your attention to this matter. Thank you. Running processes: financez 3321 0.2 0.2 53232 30908 ? Thanks! PHP:
Basically your site is overloading their servers and it is causing an impact on their other customers. Usually this happens due to poor coding, but looks like you're using Wordpress so I don't think that's the case unless you or someone (or in some rare cases a hacker) modified some of the files. With your site being Wordpress, I'm assuming you're just getting too much traffic for Hostgator to handle. Mixed in with that, using a lot of plugins can make it even worse. It's not exactly that you're using too much disk space or bandwidth. Downloading from a server it not as big of a deal. The thing is Wordpress is a PHP application which is NOT just a static HTML page and instead it's a dynamic page where accessing one single webpage or post within the application can create a few dozen MySQL queries to the database which can utilize a lot of server resources. Pretty much when you go to your index page of your blog, PHP is including a handful of other files and connecting to the database to run these queries which will search and pull information from the database to display on the page. There's a lot of work going on behind the the scenes of a PHP application, but my suggestion for you would be to see how many PHP applications you are using. Wordpress creates a lot of queries to begin with, but having plugins can produce a lot more (which is why I usually tend to not use plugins at all and just manually change or add things to my site). So maybe removing some unnessary plugins would be good. In addition to that... You could follow the instructions provided by them and install some type of caching plugin. I understand it's another plugin and that's usually a good idea to try reducing, but what a caching plugin does is makes a static copy of your webpages. So when going to your site it doesn't have as much (or none) of anything to do on the server side and it's just a matter of the user downloading the webpage file to their browser. I hope this helps! Remember, a lot of web hosts out there are "Shared" (including Hostgator), so this means that your site is hosted on the same computer(server) as many other sites. If you've already tried the above, you may need to look into getting a VPS or dedicated server. Basically you're paying a bit more but you're getting a server all to yourself, or with very few other sites hosted on it.
P.S, also thought I would mention I've never used Hostgator, but if all your sites are hosted on the same account, this could also be part of the problem because most web hosts don't care how many web sites you have. They see it as just one account. But then again I'm not sure if that's how it works with Hostgator as I've never used them.
Thank you guys for your help and advice. I finally got Hostgator to get the sites back up by installing W3-Total-Cache on all of my blogs and clearing out the spam comments. So for now I am ok, but will probably be switching to a VPS in the near future!
If you are not very good in web hosting things... you may want to first shift to a reseller hosting and than to a VPS. Your problems: You host all 12 sites in one account. Its better you use separate account for each site. This is possible with a reseller hosting.
feels bad about hostgator comments. this happens with every hosting company. wordpress plugins are causing high server loads on most servers.
Are you using any kind of auto blogging software? WP Robot eats up server resources for example. A reseller package wont increase you resources, it will give you access to WHM which will let you separate your accounts. I hate having all of mine under one. The VPS will get you more resources.
I am also facing same issue mainly becoz of wordpress plugins. The Hostgator response is also very slow.. They don't the value of our time
Indeed hostgator is sucking hard lately, check my case here. I smelly lies and lots of it. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2221237
One of the biggest disadvantage of WordPress is that it is so easy to use and so friendly, that many site owners just could not believe that sometimes it takes a huge amount of resources on a web server. So anyone who's using WP has to make sure that the blogs and plugins are optimized.
12 autoblogs with WP-Robot? It creates a heavy load when the cron jobs runs. Try to move to VPS, and don't forget to also use Akismet.
