I am willing to buy a 3 year hosting plan with hostgator for $230 (coupon) and the customer service told me, NO!!! WTF, kind of service is that??? I am willing to drop $230 cash for their hosting for 3 years, and they said I can't use a coupon, since I am not a "new customer" what idiots!!! Sorry, I am ranting, but If someone is about to buy a 3 year hosting plan, I think they would make some type of arrangement to do so, instead of being rude about it, cuz I am not a new customer. anyone else have this problem? or know a 3 year coupon i can use for host gator?
Hello, Coupon codes are used to bring in new customers. I can understand why you are made because you are looking to pay for 3 years in advance but you also need to see it from their side. HostGator are one of the most popular web hosting companies at the moment. They know that their customers are highly likely to stay with them for as long as they can. If they allowed coupon codes to be used by existing customers they would instantly loose 10-60% of their revenue depending on the coupons used. This would affect their highly regarded customer support. You also seem to be very happy with the service they have provided you. It seems only fair that you should pay for the service you receive. Hostgator are shocking, my brother signed up with them a while back for his ecommerce site, they want to charge 10 bucks i think to install an SSL certificatel, they wont allow me to install it they "must do it themselves" They have alot of bad sides to them, definately worth looking elsewhere lol.
No one in the industry has yet to figure out where they buy their "unlimited" Disk Drives - to provide people with Unlimited Space most find out after its too late UNLIMITED -does not mean "without" limits at hostgator
i always hear that hostgator is good! now then i know it got it down side :d hmmm no wonder my friend uses bluehost.
This is practiced industry-wide, not only by hostgator. I would guess you didnt read the rules before you attempted to cash in the offer
which is NOT unlimited this is NOT an industry wide practice...I have been in it longer than hostgator. It is only used by "oversellers"
thnx for all the replies. i been round and round with their customer support for the last few hours, lol. They are willing to offer me 10% off. ($260) but I do not think I will pay that much for 3 years. I want to pay 3 years, so I know I have an advanced knowledge, I have a reliable hosting, that will not up and leave. Like many hosting I have bought and used from here. I just can't believe hostgator is not willing to negotiate a bit with me.
Always read the fine print. Most coupons cannot be used for existing customers. Typically I suggest you contact a sales rep at your host first, and explain what you are looking for. Most of us in this industry are ready to deal, assuming you just ASK us... Never hurts to ask, you'd be surprised. Good luck!
I did ask them, and still no luck. They keep switching me to other people (5 now) which is nuts, When I talk to someone about money, I want to talk to one person, and only one person. They are being very rude about the whole situation. I decided to cancel my account with them, because of this situation. I was willing to buy 3 years of service with them, and their lack of professionalism and pure rudeness, made me not to want to keep my service with them. Yes, their servers and uptime are awesome, but man o man, their customer service just SUCKS! When I buy a service from someone, I expect the customer service to be at least decent, but I swear this last day while talking to hostgator, it has been an absolute nightmare.
sorry to hear but type hostgator sucks hostgator scam hostgator problems into google (they will probably pop up just after typing hostgator anyway) and see the THOUSANDS who have the same problem
First of all, I think a lot of people give hostgator a good review because they are acting as an affiliate and want you to buy thru their link. So as of now, I am not an affiliate so my review is based solely on my experience. I will agree it's attractive to newbies because of the unlimited bandwidth thing and low cost. But other posts on here pointed out that is pretty much a widespread practice--similar to godaddy or bluehost and many others. The fine print gets more technical. I asked hostgator and they said something like a limit of 25 cpu's or something at one time which is basically a request for their system to retrieve or do something. Many of the hosts won't say how much traffic is too much. I heard one place say from 3-6k visits a day and above 6k you might get shut down. Most small blogs won't get this kind of traffic. Thats another thing--hostgator--and many others--hope that you host at their place and then have little traffic..but isn't that how a lot of things work? Think gym memberships here. So I looked around and did a lot of research. One thing I like about hostgator is that you can chat live rather than having to call on the phone. Sometimes you have to wait like 5 mins to get an operator, but I can do other stuff while I wait. As like anything else, sometimes you get a good helpful knowledgeable tech, sometimes you dont--what place isn't like that? Just re-connect and hope you get a better one. before I even bought my hosting I asked their chat techs TONS of questions--so kick the tires for yourself. Now if you lose your blog files or something then yah, they might charge you to retrieve the backup files...but who wouldn't? After I purchased the hosting, they helped me setup my dns. I'm not a big techie, so every little bit saves me a headache. I think it was Jordan that did this for me..thx bro... So is their goal to get a ton of accounts on one server and hope for no traffic? Sure it is---but thats what all of the shared host guys that offer unlimited bandwidth try to do. If you need to later because of traffic, just upgrade. If you don't like them, a lot of places will transfer your stuff for you if you go with their hosting for free. My main concern when choosing a host wasnt saving 1 or 2 bucks a month but the cust service. In my opinion, their live chat cust service is unbeatable. If youre not sure, just click on live chat and put their hosts thru the ringer then decide.
Yeah, Hostgator Live Chat is absolutely amazing. Currently I am with there shared hosting plan and i've had many good experiences with it. Once I deleted and important folder from my site by mistake, and i asked their live chat support and they made my site fully working again in no time and that too for free. Yes there price is $2-$3 higher than some good and popular web hosting companies out there but great live chat system and support makes up for it. As said above by MaverickGuy, one should opt for hostgator not because of there prices, not because of there good servers but because of there great live chat support system. Regards
it's funny, you guys are praising hostgator customer service support. yes, because your experiences may have been good, but my experiences sure haven't been. I honestly think it is the worst out of all hostings i have been with.
This always makes me think of Boiler Room when the telemarketer calls him and he says we have a special savings for new customers that sign up and he responds with so what your telling me is that everyone that is a current member is basically getting screwed.
I've noticed this isn't even just with hosting companies either. Take a look at cell phone companies. At&t and verizon for instance. Their always coming out with new deals but these new deals are for NEW customers only. If you are already a customer of the carrier, you have to wait until your contracts up or you can cancel. Canceling costs a few hundred dollars depending on how many cell phone lines u have on your plan. THEN you can sign up again under the cheaper price. This new cheaper price is good for your contracts length, which is 2 years. And did i mention in a few months they will probably lower the price again? Then what? Cancel and resign up again? I think not. Its horrible.
