Great topic. I was about to use Godaddy over Yahoo for hosting. Now I think I will you hostgator. Thanks for all your input guys, you probably just saved me from future headaches.

If you only have those two to choose from, then go for Hostgator.

I use several hosts, quite surprised BlueHost not being mentioned. Nice host but not exactly cheap.

Hostgator by far is the most stable and fastest loading.

Agree that we should NEVER buy a domain name from the hosting company, especially those who provides "free" domain names.

bluehost/hostmonster have good hosting, but their support ticket system is horrible. I've had tickets take 4 days to get a reply, and while they have 24/7 telephone support, you sometimes need to send log info and it just doesn't work well over the phone. Phone support is level 1 and can only deal with very basic support issues.

I would recommend bluehost over hostgator, and hostgator WAY over godaddy. I wouldn't trust godaddy for a second with webhosting.

If I overlook the fact that I almost always get stuck using their hosting control panel, GoDaddy has been fine as a registrar. When I need support, they are there 24/7, and I'm happy to pay $0.30 for the phone call. Any problems have been resolved.

I have GoDaddy "Deluxe Hosting" - Linux - 1 year @ $32.50. Unlimited number of domains. Hosting seems reliable and speed is OK, but none of my sites are high-traffic. BTW, what are the problems with GoDaddy hosting?

I use LunarPages to host my company's primary site. $7/month. cPanel is very good and LP's service has been good enough to stay for 4+ years.

No experience with other hosting companies.

Hostgator no doubt about it, only use Godaddy to get your domains.

I use godaddy hosting for some of my sites and they have been very good to me
tho i have read lots of hate about them!(you will get that with any company of its size)
tho i dont like that they do no offer cpanel tho their admin panel is still nice
and supa easy to set up domains that are in the same account!
i was debating on getting a hostgator account just to give them a try i currently have 8 different host!godaddy is probably my most stable/reliable sorry i cant compare it to HostGator yet

ps. i think this thread needs to be moved to hosting!
