both are very good and belong to top 10 webhosting companies.you may choose which is better according to your needs.in terms of service hostgator is slightly ahead of bluehost.

I prefer Hostgator than bluehost because of their affordable hosting prices.

I've used HostGator before, they shut me down in my first month -- that's fine I had a coupon for $1 for first month hosting.

I like HostGator. I've used their reseller account for several years and have never had a problem. I also use HostNine for some IP diversity.

I used hostgator. But my sites got too big and they shut me down with NO warning at all. They wouldn't turn them back on either. I was PISSED. So I went to Bluehost. I didn't like the back end of blue and they would have done the same thing to me based on my traffic.

I ended up getting a dedicated server.

to be perfectly honest I can only really see the negatives with both of the companies in question, there are millions of reliable hosts out there and more than often you're much better off going through one of the smaller businesses.

Godaddy's hosting is very amateurish. HostGator is reliable, great support (live chat's awesome), and have great plugins and scripts installs, but I do agree with most people here saying they will ban you without warning for the slighest mis-use reason. Also, if you're running a professional website, having hostgator as your dns is probably not going to earn you much credibility. As someone who uses both HostGator and Bluehost as two of my 4 hosts, I can say bluehost hasnt given me many issues, has been reliable and the support's decent as well. They will let slide a few things that hostgator might not. HostGator's the cheapest for the best quality though...unlike JustHost whose slow-ass servers SUCKKKKK

I used to like Hostgator, but then they started adding a plugin to WordPress which adds a link to their website. And the server is now very slow :/

I would recommend hostgator, they have been doing this for quite some time. GoDaddy has loosing street credit per say in recent years.
