I honestly bever tired gatorhost, but I had never had a problem with bluehost until i had over 30k file count which was when they forced to move on to a vps
    :p

I guess both gator and blue are good host, you should be fine with either of them.

I dont know the other host you are talking about but I have been with Hostgator for over 3 years now and All I can say is thier support is great I have never once had problems with downtime and they are cheap. And they wont just shut you down for no reason They have been a great host all the years I have been with them

I think you should definate go and check out this ( An article regarding bluehost-vs-hostgator at the website "theclickfire") just to see an in depth view of what you are opting for. I suggest you do put some good thought into this since once you choose your host, its very difficult to change it after you ve established your site.
There are plenty other options out there as well...

I think I posted in this thread earlier, probably saying something about HostGator and the such, but I have recently changed from HostGator to Bluehost. Reason being? One of my sites was hacked, and HostGator refused to make backups available to me until an investigation had completed. In the meantime, that would be a loss of income for how ever long that would take, so I ended up losing the backups and had to start from scratch based on what info I could pull from Google cache.

Was pretty disgusted to be honest and will never go with HostGator again.

I haven't actually used Bluehost but from my experiences with HostGator, their live support isn't one I have seen matched and they were quick to help. Other than that however, I gotta say that I should try Bluehost before I say anything else :p

Hostgator. Used them for 4 years now and they have always been responsive to issues. Yes, they will occur no matter who you are with.
