Depends on what you will do with the website. Hostgator will ban you in an instant if you violate a TOS...

Whatever you do NEVER go with 1&1. I just won a fraud case against them for fraudulently charging my debit card for a domain I canceled a year prior. There was a famous video maker on Youtube I once saw who stated that they gave his password to some company who totally screwed him over and I've heard other complaints from others as well. I know you said you're not considering them but just so you know, they are definitely not honest! Just a tip.

I think Hostgator better than Bluehost is speed and limite.

Hostgator price is higer, but speed is fast, and limite is broad.

I'd go with hostgator. They are the best hosting company by far.

I can relate with wanting to move on from GoDaddy. I am loyal to them with domains only, their prices are cheap and propogation is always fast, but their hosting setup is beyond a joke. What's wrong with using c-panel or Direct Admin?

I am now with Host Gator, and I can say that I am more than happy with them. Their Cpanel interface is brilliant, hosting is fast and reliable, 99.9% uptime as well, I can definitely give you a vote for them.

As far as being shut down by them and all that, I can say that if you are doing something illegal that is against their TOS, well... you know all too well what is going to happen. If youre doing something illegal, look at Canadian Hosting and save the troubles.

I have been having regular server problems with my websites hosted on bluehost imo.

My websites are always down for at least 30mins 1 or 2 times a week and then bluehost emails me and says "we are having DNS connectivity issues"......... AGAIN.

Its the same thing over and over

I've never had any problems with godaddy hosting but keep hearing bad reports about them and have been looking at using a different hosting company for a little while now and from what I've been able to see both Bluehost and Hostgator are good hosts but I'm going to move to Hostgator later this month.

Does Bluehost still suspend people for profanity on their sites? I don't know if they are still doing that, but it was the dumbest thing I've heard a host doing.

I had hostgator once and my site was down numerous times up to 7 hours. I don't know about Bluehost. I have been using Hostmonster for over two years without a hitch. They have excellent tech support as well.
