ok i just went to hostgator to register when i noticed that they have 2 options. one for linux and one for windows. whats the difference? do i have to run linux to run hostgator?
Its the operating system (abreviated OS) Your best bet is Linux- unless you're running windows scripts (ASP, ASP.NET, VB etc.). If you're new- I think you are- your best bet is linux
what should i learn? really how hard is it to run a site? i thought after it is made all i have to do is add the context and get traffic.
Well if there are things for you to learn there is no better way then to dive right in and figure it out for yourself. Best of luck to you
oh if it were only that easy. Here's a few things that you should learn. I'm not trying to be an a$$hole, just answering your question: 1. What type of site are you going to make? 2. What language are you going to code it in? 3. Who is going to code it? 4. Can you tell good code form bad code (not necessary- good thing to know though... comes from personal experience) 5. How are you going to makret it? 6. What sets you apart from the competition? Those are very basic questions. I could go way more into detail Thanks Mike P.S. Take this as a helpful post- my first website I spent $300 trying to put up an arcade I could put up for $20 today
Knowing how to code isn't as necessary as you're trying to make it out to be. All you really need to know is basic HTML/CSS for editing; which you can learn in a few hours. They have free CMS' out now-a-days so it isn't needed that you code your own. And about your $300 arcade, you probably should've done a bit more research before hand :-\.
thanks for that lol... I really thought it was like a big thing haha But I didn't mean to know how to code- just be able to tell if the PHP code, for example, is quality or crap
