I went to HostGator's site today and noticed that they have purchased certified renewable energy credits (wind) for all of the electricity used to power and cool their servers.

    Way to go, Hostgator...

At least, you have shown your concern about the global warming matter...

Host Papa, Dreamhost and Thinkhost have been doing this for awhile, it's good to see another one on board. These energy credits help make alternative energy farming feasible, so stunt or no, it's good to see the hosting community address the energy consumption of the Internet.

My sites are all carbon-offset, and I'm working on a solar-powered laptop, so all of the power I use online (except for the occaisional coffee shop) is renewable or supports renewables.

Is it a kit that you are buying for your solar powered laptop?

I'm trying to make enough money to purchase a wind mill to put on top of the old HAM radio tower on my property. Maybe it can offset all the power my servers take up.

Good for hostgator, I knew I went with them for a reason.

Yep, ThinkHost has been using renewable energy for years! 90% wind and 10% solar!
