I have 3 websites hosted on a baby plan on Hostgator. Can or how do i set a password for every website admin cpanel login?
As you're on a shared hosting plan, you have one cPanel account to manage all of your websites. You should be able to create FTP accounts for each addon domain though.
can you explain this or say in another words this? > set a password for every website admin cpanel login
You're welcome! Login to cPanel and navigate to Email >> Email Accounts. There you should be able to create email accounts for all your domains.
Yes since you have one plan and 3 websites under that plan, you will have one cPanel with login details. In the cPanel, you can have as many websites you want, then you can change the emails and the password for each domain in the FTP or Email accounts section. If you wish to keep the same domain email for addon domains too, then you have to make that change in the cPanel section.
You'll need a reseller account with HostGator. You should be able to quickly upgrade your plan. I'd just jump on live chat and see if they can get that sorted for you.
They can though they share a single cPanel. In other words, you will have 1 set of credentials. You will use these to access your cPanel and manage all of your websites that you add including your primary domain name. Once you have added your first addon domain certain elements in cPanel will change including the email accounts feature. When you access the email accounts page you will see a drop down menu next to the email creation option and from this drop down menu you will select the domain you want to create an email account for. If you wanted separate cPanel accounts for each website (each having their own unique password), you would need to opt for a reseller, VPS or Dedicated server.
@OP, not 100% certain on what you are after. - It is possible to have separate ftp accounts for each website. - It is easy to have multiple email addresses, (should be unlimited). If you really need completely separate cpanel accounts for each site, then the answer is to get a basic reseller account. This gives you the advantage of a master password that can access all the sites hosted on accounts under the reseller, as well as having seperate logins that you can assign to others. With add_on domains, I have seen people create an absolute mess, putting all of them in the "public_html" folder. This is what I do. For all addon domains, I create a folder directly under the root folder, called "addon_domains". This is where I put all addon domains, it makes it nice, neat and tidy. Putting all addons under public_html means that the FTP for the root account, can access / delete files for all the sites. Wont sound like much when you have 3 sites, but once you have alot, you will be glad you did it right.
