    Hi;

    Did anybody read hostgator tos carefully?

    There is inode criteria. Every one of your files will be one inode and they will suspend your account when you reach 50k inodes.

    I know 50k is big and number to reach but Lets study a bit mathematic.

    Their hosting plans are on http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml

    They have Baby plan and they are offering 600gb web space. And you can use this web space for unlimited domains.

    * Most of the big cms systems are coming with nearly 5k files and folders.
    * All big search cms systems have cache files to load server load. (search engine visits will also increase this cache files)
    * And you will install some extra modules.

    I think it's easy to reach 20k inodes with an active web site.

    They are selling huge web space and they are not allowing you to use this web space. Dont get wrong decide with looking huge web space.

    http://www.hostgator.com/tos.shtml

    I'm not anti-hostgator person. I'm currently a hostgator custumer. They are giving great service but If you
    * are using hostgator
    * have an active web site
    Be careful. They may suspend your account.

    Or use your web space for only one domain.

    :)

    This is called overselling and you can't expect to use all...there has to be some limitations for shared hosting to be sustainable...live with it, that's the rule of the industry.

    Hello,

    Please read it more along the lines of this....

    "If you crash the servers hard drives to the point the servers hard drives require a FSCK you will be suspended."

    A fsck requires hours of downtime on a server while it's doing it's thing to repair the hard drive.

    Basically we don't care what you are using but if you cause a major outage you will be suspended. Normal usage with even having 100k's of inodes won't cause this kind of damage. People run into this problem usually from adding / deleting thousands of files an hour 24/7.

    I hope this clears this up for you.

    so you dont really suspend account with more than 50,000 inodes as long as it doesnt cause problem with the server?
    i received email yesterday regarding inodes from gator techs that i am using too much inodes and withinn 7 days if not cleared they will suspend. or upgrade to dedicated server.

    Yes. The joy of overselling. Carefully read TOS when opting for a provider. Each have their own rules, and sometimes, everything is to good to be true.
