So they started offering free hosting from mid december boasting 100GB space and 100GB bandwidth/month. I have registered with my domain for their free hosting and installed wordpress for my blog. Here are my pros and cons of this free service. I wonder if paid service is the same. Pros: 100GB Space 100GB/month bandwidth (initially they said 100Gb and apparently this guy doesnt know the difference between GB and Gb) Their control panel was simple and very good Easy mysql database creation Can use your own domain No ads (read the cons on this subject) Cons: No support at all! Don't expect your support ticket answered (been 3 weeks for my ticket still no response, in the meanwhile opened two more and response for them either). Don't want to whine for a free hosting site but don't you think 3 weeks and no response is a bit too much? Now after 3 weeks my blog wouldn't work at all. Even their http://forum.hostedwith.us/ won't work. Only a blank page is shown. Been down for more than 2days now. I wondered if its my domain and tried to access my site through the subdomain they provided. Nope sorry no luck. You cannot create support tickets anymore. I wonder whats going to go down tomorrow. Overall, I would say this site sucks and free hosting at insanegb.com sounds much better even though I heard they have some problems with creating categories in wordpress. Thanks for the 3 weeks service hostedwith.us but a big thumbsdown for you. And now I will move my site to insanegb.com
I was there a few minutes ago and despite it says 100GB in the front page, when you try to signup it reads 5GB and "a small text link will be added to you pages automatically" No ads but still advertising. ·
Yep I forgot about that CON. Their links at the bottom of the page increase day by day and they are about 15 now. Ofcourse my site is not working anymore nor their forums from the past 3 days. Not only that, the supposedly footer links sometimes creep up to your header or sidebars too.
To sum it up, You get what you pay for. If you want good hosting, pay for it. Go with a good host like Hostgator, etc.
Paying for hosting is always better as they give you more support, uptime and they care about their customers.
I am using Cute FTP. I can connect OK but I cant upload or download anything (access denied, insufficient permissions etc...)
thats weird a friend of mine is using them for his personal blog and those text ads sometimes creep up anywhere.
i like the template, but there are other things about them, but i've read around the net that they have many problems. I am not too sure as I have not tested them out myself.
Well, I can report that my site came back online in the last few minutes after 3 days of being down. FTP access is still screwed though. Can connect OK but still cant up or down anything.
Well, its almost a week after the three day outage and FTP access is still knackered. And no word from the admin(s). I think there's a lesson in this for all of us...
