Host Gator coupon Scam

    I feel scammed!

I used the coupon code "cactus" and ordered a new domain and baby package.
It showed my final order as $24.95, then misused $24.95, total = $0

It let my order go through, then minutes later I got an email saying this...

    "Dear Customer,

Thank you for your order with HostGator.com.

    The

coupon you used at sign up was valid for a discount off of your Hosting, but unfortunately does not include domain registrations. We have created a $15 invoice on your account, so if you wish for us to register the domain, please login to t billing system (https://secure.hostgator.com/billing), pay the $15 due invoice, and reply back once paid so we can register your domain name for you.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Thanks,

    Kimberly S."

So is this the same as me walking into a store buying 2 shirts with a "buy one get one free" coupon, then getting a letter the next day saying I will be charged for the extra shirt because the coupon isnt good?

The hostgator site knows if the coupon is no longer valid, but it dosent know if it is valid for r domains?

    I feel scammed!!!

yeah but what I'm saying is why did they say I was getting it free then came back and said I had to pay.

After I already became a customer. Sure I can cancle my order, or use a different domain and still have a free month of hosting, but they trick you into ordering by saying it is free before you place order!!!!

Yea, i think they did too kinda, thats really not right to show the price as 0.00 then later say hey you owe us some money.. They should have just showed it in that price there and left it as that.

Thank you! I'm glad someone agrees.

So I called and told them it's not right to do that, they said they never offer coupons for domains. He had no explanation of why it showed during the order that I was getting it free. So I canceled the domain and they said well it's $5 to transfer to a different primary. So I said screw it and canceled the whole order.

Then I made a new order for just hosting, used "cactus" and got it free. Used a godaddy coupon "geo199" and got my domain for $1.99.

Yeah, all that to save a few bucks. haha

Either you skipped something or company misinterpreted the terms, anyways it is always bad to get such surprises.

there are only two type of hostgator coupon:
    1) 20% off initial order
    2) $9.94 discount off

unfortunately, you are seem to using the obsolute coupon. somehow it get through. result in the error where the domain is not being charged, where it should.

anyhow, you can ask for refund and cancel account in 45 days with hostgator.

Yeah they sure did. They showed you owed nothing and turned around and said hey give me $15 for a domain that's worth only $8.95 or less!

It's a glitch with their system / false advertisement. They should of specified that it was off of hosting only not domains through WHMCS's backend instead.

Its not Hostgators fault. They give the coupon to have saving from hosting package not domain.

The billing system may not have an option to apply the discount to one product but I thought it would
